this guy wants his carbon fiber bicycle painted satin black with gloss black letters on it. i have to strip off spray paint :/. after sanding paint off do i just seal it up with epoxy, nothing special? spray black paint..then do i

spray regular clear
mask off letters/numbers
spray flattened clear?

ive never sprayed flattened clear except for conversion varnish with flattener in it which sprayed just like regular clear, then used steel wool on it. real easy. very forgiving

does flattened auto clear tiger stripe easily?

i cant sand it to fix it correct? spray right first or do over.

can flattened clear be sprayed over regular clear?

can i get the satin finish by spraying regular clear and not polishing all the way to gloss??

I get my best satin black results by using flattener in a lower solids urethane single stage black. The higher solids clears seem kinda finicky to me as far as repeatability and uniform gloss level. It's important to get about the same amount of paint everywhere on each pass which can be hard with tubes. If there are spots where it goes on too heavy, it will be shinier, especially when higher solids material is used. Don't use any slower reducer than called for, if anything go a step faster and over-reduce for lower solids and faster flash. You can spray the flattened material over sanded clear, but depending on expectations, it might be a lot more labor and cost effective to have the letters cut from vinyl.
